Up one side and down on the other Everyone I know got something to hide Tired of being told I’m like any other Everything I’m told I’m holding inside Pink Lady Dawn is handing out flyers Back in Japan they’re raising the dead I understand the lepers and liars Take what you can and go on ahead I’m a modern man Standing on Broadway and 47th By the garbage cans Looking up at all the skyscrapers I’m in the wind And it touches my skin like a terrified lover trying to get in But I’ve gone out for the winter and I’m never coming back again Go to the show and spend lots of money Watch it all flow like shit down a stream Everybody knows that something is coming Everybody knows just what I mean Standing on the street talking to strangers Look at me like I have some disease Everything old in some kind of danger Those I don’t know are so hard to please I’m a modern man Standing on Broadway and 47 th By the garbage cans Looking up at all the skyscrapers I’m in the wind And it touches my skin like a terrified lover trying to get in But I’ve gone out for the winter and I’m never coming back again

I ain’t got nobody but my wheels keep spinnin’ Ain’t got nobody but I’m far from alone Ain’t got nobody but it feels like I’m winnin’ Like a candle in the center of a bone I got this feeling and it feels like lightning I got this feeling and I’m far away from home I got this feeling, it’s a little bit frightening But I think I’m gonna make it on my own But in my dreams I see a face, I see a hand on my shoulder And I’ve been much bolder than I ever have before But a knock upon the door might just send me to the floor Sayin’ no I can’t take no more (Solo verse) Repeat bridge I ain’t got nobody but my wheels keep turning Ain’t got nobody but I’m far from alone Ain’t got nobody but I’m yearning and burning Like a candle in the center of a bone I ain’t got nobody but my wheels keep turning Ain’t got nobody but I’m far from alone Ain’t got nobody but I’m yearning and burning Like a candle in the center of a bone A candle in the center of a bone A candle in the center of a bone

Keep the tracks before the train Never turn your back on rain Everything will stay the same Until you change Under stacks of fallen fame Known by six or seven names When the proud attack the tame And shame the vain People change (X3) Take me to the wooden shed With a pitchfork stone and bed There’s a whole lot being said That’s not done When you’re dead and underground Emi Or on your head and makin’ sound It’s just instead of going round That you come People change People chang-un’ Fiddle play and guitar strum Look what we have overcome Oh I can’t believe what we have Overcame Lookin’ out across the town Rooftops red and black and brown There’s some people that I’ve found That are strange People change (Vocal/instrumental breakdown over verses and heart attack) Under Chekhov’s Cherry Trees Balzac’s birds and Bessie’s bees There’s some people that are free When they’re bound Under swinging pendulums By the drum before the drum We are so often overcome Before we’re found People change People change around But the mission of the man Is to plan before you stand I think I understand I understand Building towers in the sky Is just one way to get high There are others if you try To name them People change People change When you change them Crossing bridges in the rain Gets you just as wet the same As the river running tame Beneath you Keep the tracks before the train Never turn your back on rain People change, people change We need you (First two stanzas) People change

about

Recorded on March 16, 2008, this gig finds The Randy Bandits at a great touring rock club called Jammin' Java in Virginia. It was Russ Kaplan's dad's birthday party, which explains all the references to him throughout the show. Our set was sprinkled with cover songs that are not present here for legal reasons, but feel free to search "The Randy Bandits" + "The Weight" on ye old YouTube.

about

Jim Knable and The Randy Bandits New York

Jim Knable plays with and without various incarnations of The Randy Bandits, formed in 2002, but if he plays with a band, it always ends up being The Randy Bandits, despite the occasionally misleading billing. Studio albums: BLUE REUNION (2020), GOLDEN ARROW (2009), REDBEARD (2006), GREEN MAN (2007-18) form the core of Jim Knable's songwriting output, but the crust is also worth exploring. ... more
